Beta Upsilon Chi was formed at The University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 1985 by a handful of Christian men who desired an alternative to the present fraternal lifestyle. A group of Christian men met and planned the "BYX Island Party" to formally announce the fraternity's founding. It was the vision of the founding fathers to have a fraternity of committed Christian men, based on the unique brotherhood that a Christian atmosphere affords, for the purpose of fellowship and glorification of Jesus Christ. Through events such as parties, service projects, and evangelical outreaches, the charter members of Beta Upsilon Chi chose to unite in fellowship and glorify Jesus Christ on the University of Texas campus.

After the fraternity took root at the University of Texas, other universities noticed the value and success of BYX and began to desire a chapter at their own school. The original founding fathers never planned for the fraternity to leave the streets of Austin, but knew that God was calling them to take the mission of BYX further. This began the process of expansion, which began first at Texas Christian University and continues to this day.

In the fall of 1999, five OU students named Kevin Clark, Ryan Fulda, Jeremy Hager, Brian Hartsock, and Rob Sher traveled to Sky Ranch in Tyler, Texas to visit the annual Brothers Under Christ Officer Conference. It was their vision to start a strong, close-knit fraternity based on fellowship, accountability, and most importantly, the glorification of Jesus Christ. Upon learning more about Brothers Under Christ, the group of men strongly felt God encouraging BYX at the University of Oklahoma.

With time, the Kappa Chapter of Beta Upsilon Chi at the University of Oklahoma was formed. In the fall of 2000, Brothers Under Christ at OU held its first recruitment - signing over 25 pledges devoted to growing in the bond of Christ. The Kappa Chapter was the tenth BYX chapter to be started and the first outside of Texas.

In the 19 years since, the chapter has grown in both number and campus prominence. In the 2016-2017 school year, the Kappa chapter was recognized as the BYX chapter of the year by our national office and as the first runner-up for the President's Trophy - which is awarded by President David Boren to the #1 Fraternity on campus.
